The notion of sustainability is built on strategies for prevention, reduction, and compensation, with each part complementing the others. Our meeting spaces are set up to support this purpose, and our programs and services for events prioritize eco-friendly approaches.

Green Key

As the holder of the Green Key certificate since 2013, the resort actively works towards enhancing its own processes towards a more sustainable future in terms of onsite recycling, waste reduction, energy and water conservation, natural composting, usage of eco-friendly cleaning supplies and similar eco-friendly practices. Green Key, the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry, represents our commitment to adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. A Green Key stands as the promise to our guests that by opting to stay with us as the Green Key establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental level.

Green Meetings

Our meeting rooms feature air-conditioning systems fitted with breakers to switch off when windows are left open, thermostat-controlled temperature, and projector off instead of standby.

Sun Gardens Dubrovnik has eliminated the use of single-use plastics, like straws, bags, bottles, and cutlery, and uses alternative options made from bamboo, sugarcane or other compostable materials which greatly reduces the amount of waste and plastic that finds its way to the oceans.

We are also minimizing the negative imprint by reducing paper collateral with QR codes and featuring recycled paper in meeting rooms.  Or why not help us eliminate the paper altogether and use some of our digital solutions only – digital signage, interactive TV and App easily tailoring communication to your needs while maintaining your branding guidelines.

Virtual inspections have become the fully viable alternative for essential businesses to continue so take advantage of our live site inspections without physically being on the property, while cutting down on the fossil fuels and other travel impacts, especially in the first stages of event planning.

Green Food

Our banqueting choices include a variety of sustainable meals that use seasonal and local ingredients that have travelled less between the producer and the customer.

At least once during your event, choose a "Meat-free menu" with vegetarian and plant-based alternatives. Improve your tea and coffee breaks with a variety of healthier snacks that emphasize organic brain food.

With sustainable F&B, we also consider food quantity, utilizing our expertise and technology to more precisely estimate the ideal food quantity, overcoming the "fear of running out of food" in the events business while minimizing food waste.

Take advantage of water dispensers where delegates can refill their water containers or let us serve filtered tap drinking water in glass containers. Provide all attendees with refillable steel or aluminium beverage containers and engage them in reaching your and our sustainable goals.

Green Areas

One of the most noticeable features of the resort is that the gardens are established and mature, with the majority of the trees having been planted more than 30 years ago. Attractive walkways, created from creamy stone from the Dalmatian island of Brač, meander between lush, scented areas planted thickly with olive, pine and citrus trees and oleander bushes.

Waste reduction and recycling are among the core premises of the Sustainable strategy at Sun Gardens Dubrovnik. We have reduced the number of trash bins at the event venues and increased the number of recycling options. Take advantage of the dedicated recycling stations in the resort to encourage attendees to dispose of their waste thoughtfully. Our team will take it from there to arrange further processing in partnership with local providers as well as composting of organic waste to help improve soils on the vast resort grounds.

Green Activities

Our 22-hectare destination resort on the beautiful Adriatic coast will leave you spoiled for choice when it comes to onsite team-building programs and activities. Choose from a range of carbon-free options like hiking, cycling or running, treasure hunt programmes, Adriatic Sea swimming challenge, Olympics quests and more.

If you want to include a volunteer program in your event itinerary you can organize your own programme on site, such as cleaning up the local beach, working on venue grounds, or organizing olive-picking. We can also assist you with off-site programmes through sustainable volunteer opportunities in partnership with the local community.

Plant a Plant Initiative

Speak out for the plants because, among other things, they reduce soil erosion, offset carbon emissions, and offer food and habitat for a range of animals and insects. Get your hands dirty and assist us in planting trees and maintaining horticulture in our resort and in neighbouring wildfire-damaged areas.

 Cleaning the Community

By helping us clean up a neighbourhood campsite or park, you will have an immediate and significant impact on the environment. Being a part of doing something constructive feels good and is always more motivating than just thinking about the issue of plastic waste. It's a wonderful opportunity to spend the day outside and socialize with your group.
